Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names), who are facing challenges and would appreciate a little help this holiday season.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
The following are some stories we would like to share with our readers.
• Larry is a single man who has recently secured affordable housing after experiencing homelessness. Despite this positive step forward, he continues to face financial challenges due to limited income and other financial commitments. These constraints make it difficult for him to purchase essential household items. At present, Larry is most in need of household cleaning supplies, laundry products, and basic kitchen items. He would greatly appreciate any assistance provided and is sincerely grateful for any support received.
• Leinani is a single woman who has faced significant difficulties in her past, including struggles with addiction. Through determination and effort, she is now making progress in regaining control of her life. Recently, Leinani secured both employment and affordable housing, marking important steps toward stability and independence. Despite these achievements, Leinani’s financial situation remains challenging. After covering her housing expenses, she has very little money remaining for other necessities. This year, practical support in the form of kitchen supplies and food would be especially meaningful to her. However, Leinani is genuinely grateful for any assistance she receives, and any gift would be appreciated as she continues her journey toward recovery and self-sufficiency.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $200 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kauai.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766.
