Correction for April 16

In April 9’s “Celebrate Hula” special section, Tribune-Herald reporter John Burnett erroneously reported that the wahine of Hilo’s Halau Hula ‘O Kahikilaulani’s hula kahiko (ancient hula) performance would be a chant honoring Princess Kina‘u, daughter of Kamehameha I. The chant performed by kumu hula Nahokuokalani Gaspang’s women was actually penned in honor of John William Pitt Kina‘u, the son of William Pitt Leleiohoku I and Princess Ruth Ke‘elikolani. The prince was also known as Kina‘u. The Tribune-Herald regrets and apologizes to the kumu and halau for the error.
