Costa to be inducted into Hall of Honor

HONOLULU — Kiran Costa, a senior at the Kapaa High School, will be inducted into the Enterprise Rent-a-car Hawaii High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor during an awards banquet on June 2.

In an early Monday announcement by the HHSAA, Costa is one of 12 students who will be inducted into the 2019 Class of Inductees during the banquet at the Dole Cannery, Pomaika‘i Building on Oahu starting at 5 p.m.

Costa was selected for his achievements in football, soccer, and volleyball during his tenure with Kapaa High School in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation. The Kapaa High School Warriors football team earned the KIF title, the boys soccer teamed returned with the Division II pennant, and the boys volleyball team finished in the Division II runner up spot.

The Kapaa High School senior joins 11 other seniors from across the state in the Hall of Honor and will receive a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of the HHSAA and Enterprise Holdings, the owner and operator of Enterprise Rent-a-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent-A-Car brands.

Costa joins Naighel Calderon of Lanai High School, Duke Clemens of Punahou, Kelani Corbett of Leilehua, Sunshine Fontes of Pearl City, Dillon Gabril of Mililani, Ashley Gooman of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Mikayla Kekoa of Kohala, Kameron Ng of St. Francis, Kalina Obrey of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Faatui Tuitele of St. Louis, and Noah Wusstig of Moanalua in the 2019 class.

Selection of the dozen inductees was conducted by a 13-person committee made up of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors, and coaches from around the state.

The criteria is based mainly on athletic achievement, but character, sportsmanship, academic accomplishment, and community service are taken into consideration.

The Hall of Honor program has been recognizing the top 12 Hawaii senior student-athletes each year since 1983.
