County seeks bids on Hilo Muni restaurant

The county Department of Parks and Recreation has extended to Sept. 14 the bid deadline for the lease to operate a restaurant concession at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

The corresponding intent to bid document, required of all entities wishing to bid on the lease, is now due Sept. 9.

The lease is for an initial period of six years, from Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2027, with future options for two additional two-year extensions. In addition, the lease affords the winning bidder the exclusive right to provide food and beverage services at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Situated in the new clubhouse facility at the Hilo Muni, the 2,400-square-foot main dining area overlooks the fairway of the first hole and may seat up to 163 people. The lease includes managing the 2,400-square-foot multipurpose room, which may be used as an additional dining area, a special events room, or a themed dining setting. In addition to the 800-square-foot kitchen, the lease includes a deck area for outdoor seating, an office, dedicated storage areas and shared use of the golf course’s restroom facilities and parking lot.

“We encourage all interested parties to visit the Hilo Muni’s clubhouse and get a feel for themselves of the great potential this business opportunity has for the right restaurant operation to thrive in Hilo,” said Maurice Messina, the Parks and Recreation director. “We cannot stress enough how critical it is that interested bidders go online to view and download the bid documents and then submit their intent to bid far in advance of the Sept. 9 deadline.” Messina said.

Interested businesses and individuals must go online to view all of the pertinent bid documents and requirements by registering with Public PurchaseTM, the county’s free e-procurement bidding and vendor management system.
