County suspends search for missing 6-year-old

The active ground search for 6-year-old Benjamin “Benny” Rapoza was suspended Tuesday afternoon following notification to the family.

Rapoza, a nonverbal autistic child was last seen about 3 p.m. Dec. 20 at a residence in the 2100 block of Kalanianaole Street in Keaukaha.

He is described as local, about 3 feet tall, about 50 pounds, with a slim build, short brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

He was last seen wearing a diaper.

The extensive multi-agency air, land and sea search effort yielded no results. Community and family members islandwide have assisted in the search.

The investigation continues, with detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section actively responding to any new information and tips.

Police continue to ask anyone with information about Rapoza’s whereabouts or who might have seen him to call Detective BJ Sagon at 961-8883 or 935-3311, or email Sagon at bobbie-jo.sagon@hawaiicounty.gov.
