Da Shadow: Hanamaulu dust-prevention measures

w Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from “The Shadow” radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.

Hanama‘ulu Park (near Laukona Street)

The county recently cleared a portion of land in this area for what may be a future park. Please advise as to why no dust screen or dust control was put into place to protect nearby residents’ homes from the dust.

While completing this important project, the contractor took dust-preventative measures. The contractor had its own water truck work as well as a county water truck on-hand regularly until hydroseeding of the area began.

Lihue Neighborhood Center / Isenberg Park

Are there any future plans to improve the parking lot safety by installing lights at the Lihue Neighborhood Center / Isenberg Park?

There are currently no plans to install new lighting at Lihue Neighborhood Center.
