Ele Makule, Rookies lead Kaua‘i Senior Softball

LIHU‘E — The Ele Makule, in the 70s Division of Kaua‘i Senior Softball league, held off the Koloa Cane Cutters to take a 16-15 win during its outing Friday at Isenberg Park.

The Ele Makula win preserves its lead in the standings with a 7-0 record.

“Ele Makule remains undefeated by taking a seventh-inning, walk-off win from the Koloa Cane Cutters,” said J.C. Crouch. “Na Koa Kupuna put up a furious seventh-inning charge, but could not overcome the Ahukini Wharf Rats.”

In the 60s Division, defending champions the Rookies are now 21-1 after a solid 22-10 win over the Bushwackas on Saturday.

“The 60s Division also saw a bunch of big numbers put on the scoreboard,” Crouch said. “The Keonimana Gents plated 32 runs — 18 in the seventh inning — to take out a tough Solid Steel. Bushwackas pushed the Rookies, but could not hold them off, and Imi‘Ola continued their hot second-half run by coasting past Kawaihau.”

Makos, with a strong 17-6 showing over West Kaua‘i, created a three-way logjam in the standings. Makos, coupled with losses by Kawaihau and Solid Steel, are tied at 11 wins, 11 losses apiece, with two weeks remaining in the Kaua‘i Senior Softball League calendar.

The season ends with games on July 15.

Kaua‘i Senior Softball League games continue this week with the 70s Division playing two contests on Friday at Isenberg Park. The first pitch goes at 9 a.m.

In the 60s Division, games will be played at Isenberg Park and Wailua Houselots Park on Saturday. The first pitch at both sites unfolds at 9 a.m.
