‘Ele‘ele church honors Queen Elizabeth II

‘ELE‘ELE — St. John’s Church on Mehana Road in ‘Ele‘ele is holding a special service of remembrance for Queen Elizabeth II Sunday at 10 a.m.

The church’s entrance is draped in a black cloth, continuing an ancient rite and traditional English form of mourning and respect, known as “creping the door lintel.” It inaugurates a season of grief in the Church of England.

“We grieve and celebrate our monarch’s passing and rejoice in her resurrection in Christ. We are the Church of England on Kaua‘i,” said an email from the Rev. Kerry Elizabeth Holder Joffrion, vicar of Westside Episcopal churches.
