Fishing for Charity fuels 42nd Annual Kaua‘i Charity Walk

PO‘IPU — Registration packets for the Third Annual Fishing for Charity is available for pick up at all Kuhio Auto Group dealership locations as well as downloadable through the digital link at Charity Walk Kaua‘i’s Instagram page @charitywalkkauai.

The Fishing for Charity tournament serves as the launch for the 42nd annual Kaua‘i Charity Walk fundraising campaign.

“Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Charity Walk, many of Kaua‘i’s nonprofit organizations were left without much-needed funding,” said Marc Bennor, the Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Association Kaua‘i Chapter Board president. “We are working in overdrive to raise $200,000 this year. This family-friendly event will help us to achieve our fundraising goal so we are able to financially support so many of our organizations that supported our island community throughout the pandemic.”

The HLTA, Kaua‘i Chapter, in partnership with title sponsors Reel Nauti Kaua‘i, and the Kuhio Auto Group, will present the Fishing for Charity during the Father’s Day weekend, June 18 through 20 for both shoreline and boat fishers with more than 10 prize categories, and more than $6,000 in cash prizes.

Weigh-ins will take place at the Vidinha Stadium parking lot, June 20 in a one-of-a-kind drive-in event to ensure proper compliance with laws and regulations relating to COVID-19.

“This fishing tournament originally started for employees of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort as a boost to its fundraising efforts for the Charity Walk,” said Samira Siale of the HLTA, Kaua‘i Chapter. “This was a popular facet of the fundraising efforts so, because we can’t have the Charity Walk, we’re adjusting to have the tournament open to everyone, and adding the boat fishers as well. Mahalo to our amazing event title sponsors Reel Nauti Kaua‘i, and the Kuhio Auto Group.”

Event sponsorships as well as contributions to the Charity Walk Kaua‘i are being welcomed by contacting Samira Siale at samira@htlakauai.org, or 808-651-3172.

The Charity Walk, presented by the Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Association, is a statewide event that takes place annually on Hawai‘i Island, Kaua‘i, Maui, Lana‘i, Moloka‘i, and Oahu to benefit various nonprofit organizations on each island.
