Floating body found near Waika‘ea Canal

KAPA‘A — A badly decomposed body was found floating in the water off Waika‘ea Canal on Tuesday morning.

The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) said because of the condition of the body it is seeking the public’s help in the identification process.

“According to a preliminary report, KPD personnel responded to a call of a possible body floating in the waters off the Lihi Boat Ramp (Waika‘ea Canal) in Kapa‘a,” the KPD said.

“Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Kapa‘a fire station arrived to retrieve the body from the water. The body was later transported to Wilcox Medical Center. The person is unrecognizable due to the advanced state of decomposition.”

The body did have an elastic bandage wrap on the left wrist. An autopsy was completed, and foul play is not suspected at this time. The KPD also said no missing persons reports have been filed recently.
