Football states title trip starts Friday

HONOLULU — Action in the 2025 First Hawaiian Bank Hawaii High School Athletic Association Football Championships presented by the Hawaii Army National Guard will start Friday at different sites around the state of Hawaii.

Kapaa High School, confirming its Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation title with a 20-0 shutout over Waimea High School last week, received the top seed from the HHSAA for the Division I bracket.

With the top seed, the Warriors from up on the hill enjoy a bye during the opening weekend. Kapaa will first see action during the semifinals when the Warriors host the winner of No. 4 seed Damien and No. 5 Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League.

The Damien-Baldwin confrontation takes place on Saturday at the Edward “Skippa” Diaz Stadium at Farrington High School on Oahu.

Kapaa will host the winner of that matchup on Nov. 22, starting at 2 p.m. at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium.

On the same date, at Hanapepe Stadium, Waimea High School football earned the No. 2 seed in the Division II bracket that was released over the weekend.

With the No. 2 seed, the Menehune will enjoy the bracket’s opening weekend, and will first see action during the Div. II semifinals on Nov. 22. The Menehune of Kauai are scheduled to meet the winner of the No. 3 seed Roosevelt and unseeded Pearl City that will contest on Friday at the Ticky Vasconcelles Stadium located at Roosevelt High School on Oahu.

Waimea on Kauai is scheduled to kick off on Nov. 22 starting at 2:30 p.m. at the Hanapepe Stadium.

Both winners of the Kauai games in Division I and in Division II brackets will advance to the respective finals that will contest on Nov. 28 at the John Kauinana Stadium located on the Mililani High School campus. The Division II title match kicks off starting at 4 p.m., and the Division I championship follows at 7:30 p.m.

Other seedings in Division II bracket include Kamehameha Schools-Maui earning the top seed. Following Waimea as the second seed, Roosevelt gets the No. 3 seed followed by PAC-5 being named No. 4 seed, and Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii earning the No. 5 seed.

Division I seeding includes Kapaa followed by Konawaena High School of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation being named No. 2 seed. Kailua High School of the Oahu Interscholastic Association earns the No. 3 seed followed by Damien getting the No. 4 seed, and Baldwin getting the No. 5 seed.

The top two seeds for the Division I-Open bracket include Kahuku getting the top seed, and Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama earning the No. 2 seed. The Division I-Open bracket starts its title journey on Nov. 21 with the championships being determined on Dec. 5 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
