Hashi’s Fine Art gallery is celebrating its grand opening in Hanapepe tonight.
Featuring the work of Steve and Jan Hashi, Patrick Ching, Sue Rink and Tamra Corwin, all of whom will be in attendance, the celebration begins at 6 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami, followed by a celebration where attendees can mingle with the artists while enjoying music, drinks and light pupu.
Kawakami doesn’t cut the ribbon at every art gallery on the island, but he has a special connection to this one. He met Jan Hashi, who owns Hashi’s Fine Art with her husband Steve, at a charity event last year. Hashi said Kawakami was so taken by a painting she had on display that he spent a good portion of the evening talking to her about it and later purchased the oil on canvas depicting a crashing wave to hang in his office.
