Getting the vote out

LIHU‘E — Entrance to the 2020 Primary Election Voter Service Center is through the rollup door on the Hardy Street side of the Pi‘ikoi Building.

The Voter Service Center was scheduled to open Monday, but that opening was delayed by the passage of Hurricane Douglas close to Kaua‘i late Sunday night, and into the early hours of Monday morning. Tuesday, the VSC opened to the public starting at 8 a.m.

Sharing the lobby of the Pi‘ikoi Building with the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Permitting Section, the VSC will be available Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from July 28 through Aug. 7. It is closed on Sunday.

On Aug. 8, Primary Election Day, the VSC will open at 7 a.m. and remain open until voting ends at 7 p.m.

The VSC offers in-person voting service using paper ballots, or electronic voting machines, same-day voter registration and voting services, and serves as a mail ballot collection site.

Due to the recently-updated social gathering guidelines, voters utilizing the VSC may experience longer than desired wait times due to a limited number of voters being allowed in the voting area at any given time.

Voters must also maintain the six feet social distancing separation with neighboring individuals by following the guidelines on the floor, and everyone must wear a face mask in accordance with the Emergency Rule 6 that was put into effect on July 25 by Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.
