No one knew what Halloween was going to be like during this COVID-19 pandemic, said one of the costumed greeters Thursday during the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort &Spa’s keiki Halloween drive-thru trick-or-treat event for children of associates at the resort’s big front-lawn and entrance.
“This one is for the keiki,” said Dan King, hotel general manager. “They must be dressed up in costume. This is their time for some fun.”
Keiki accompanied by a Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i parent drove through five different stations offering treats and a quick activity without having to leave the safety of the car. Headlining the setup, The Ladder to Nowhere had ghosts and ghouls flying around the cars, leaving behind a scattering of candy into waiting pumpkins at the porte cochere.
Other stations included the appearance of a bubble-shooting unicorn, undersea fishers, a Disney princess, the Kalaheo Housewives and more.
COVID-19 safety measures were in force, including the use of gloves by candy distributors, wearing of face masks, and social distancing to keep everyone safe.
“Normally, we would have the pumpkin-decorating and carving contests,” said Diann Hartman, the resort’s marketing manager. “The kids at Camp Hyatt would be having their Halloween fun. But the resort is closed because of the novel coronavirus, and how can you tell keiki there won’t be any Halloween?”
