Hanalei man is 2022’s 7th traffic fatality

PRINCEVILLE — A 68-year-old Hanalei man died from his injuries after being struck on Kuhio Highway in Princeville Monday night.

His identity has not yet been released.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was walking in the northbound lane of Kuhio Highway, near the Kapaka Street intersection, when he was struck by a Honda sedan driven by a 49-year-old Kilauea woman at around 7:40 p.m.

Speeding and impairment are not suspected factors in the crash. However, the investigation is ongoing.

The highway was closed in both directions for roughly 3-1/2 hours.

This is Kaua‘i’s seventh traffic fatality this year.
