Happy Camper for Friday, February 14, 2020

OMG! The online auction for John Uyeno’s estate has been posted to Malama Auctions’ website ( under “John Uyeno Fine Estate Auction” that will take online bids only on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 17 and 18. There are photos of the items available, and it’s worth the time to see the kind of items (many are historic collectibles) that are available. Make sure you have a nice cup of coffee available. It’s going to take some time. John Genovese (starting bids on anything is a dollar!) was intrigued with the “leaf collection” implements that were available.

Ed Watamura (he’s got a lot of Kaua‘i relatives since he was born here but now lives on O‘ahu) of the Wespac Fisheries Management Council was glad to see so many young people during the scoping meeting. Zane Takemoto and Trenton Tanigawa (their dads are interested fishermen) took in the meeting, visiting other fishermen families, and Ed described them as “the next generation of fishermen.”

Was nice to visit with Mochi-Celeste (she was still sleeping) at the Talk Story Bookstore ahead of the Hanapepe Economic Alliance (great job, Judy Paige, Randy Francisco and Joanna Carolan!) meeting where residents in Hanapepe and ‘Ele‘ele got a voice in front of Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami and other government officials (congrats to Nalani Brun on being announced as the interim director for the Office of Economic Development!).

OK, it’s time to go check out the kupuna at Na Kupuna Council and the County of Kaua‘i’s “Let the Good Times Roll” senior Valentine’s Party hosted by the Kalaheo Seniors Club at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Kaua‘i — stay safe (it’s the President’s Day weekend).
