Happy Camper for Friday, February 25, 2022

Kudos, Elysse Litvack and the volunteer ‘ohana of Kumu’s Cupboard on the fifth anniversary of helping teachers (kudos Natsumi Miyasato and the Wilcox STEM class on the re-establishing of the cricket farm. Retired Kaua‘i Community College Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Earl Nishiguchi was asking about the project while shopping at the Pau Hana Market) with resources they would otherwise have to pay for.

Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e said Elysse and Kumu’s is having a special program (No, Read Across America with Taylor Shigemoto and Hawai‘iUSA FCU comes up, next week! ) at the former Pier 1 space, Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Kudos to Robbie Melton and the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i who raised scholarship funds with the sold-out performance of the Jo Grande (she’s a Zontian!)-directed Hawai‘i Community Players’ production of “Mama Won’t Fly” that offered a touch of the Zontians’ Eat Dessert First with those Orly Yadao creations, and where did those malasadas (Tuesday is Malasada Tuesday!) come from?

OK, now it’s time to check out John Patt and those 70’s division softball players who open play at the Isenberg Park. No, Mayor Derek Kawakami is not 70, even if John said he’s going to be there.

Kudos to Lea Ingram, Toni Wass, and all those quilters and businesses that got Mayor Kawakami to present the winners of the Peoples’ Choice awards — Mary Ching, Liz Thompson, Maile Bloxsom and Toni Wass — during the Kaua‘i Quilt Show that raised nearly $9,000 for 13 different nonprofits through the sale of “Donation Quilts.”
