Happy Camper for Friday, February 5, 2021

Flora Visitacion (she was scoring at the senior Tuesday discount day at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Lihu‘e) said she can hardly wait on the Melanie Okamoto Valentine dance (it’s coming up next Friday) COVID-19 substitute so she can see Marilyn Matsumoto at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center, where she is hoping to get in a couple of Bingo rounds.

Next Friday is also the opening of the Kaua‘i Quilt Show 2021 (is the Beauty Boardroom still there?) at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (they have the art showcase coordinated by Edilyn Grace Marquez and friends this Saturday from 3 p.m.), and all those participating quilters, including show chair Toni Wass and KSA member Lea Ingram (did you catch the mermaid at one of the KSA shows?) will be on hand. The quilt show runs through Feb. 24 (hurry or you’re going to miss out on the charity quilts that benefit some of 13 Kaua‘i nonprofits, including this year’s new additions of Toys For Tots and Kumu’s Cupboard).

Sam Bonanno (he’s on the way to Vicky’s Fabrics, one of the quilt show sponsors) of The Kamoa Shop (er, it was Larry’s Music) is keeping the Kamoa excitement alive, as he figured out a way to get the Lydgate Farms chocolate tied in to ‘ukulele, and has unique fiber art jewelry (black pearls from Tahiti?) along with professional body boards that he says are pulling people in from all over since the pandemic shut down the Koloa Plantation Days’ Ukes in Paradise at Keoki’s (the sign along the Po‘ipu Road says “We Open!”). And you can always have that ono Pono Coffee and Bakery on the way.

OK, ‘nuff said, it’s time to check out the new marine-wildlife art panel near Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i and DoU Boutique at Kukui Grove Center this week.
