Happy Camper for Friday, January 19, 2023

Happy birthday to Gina Fulop-Thomas, who got to celebrate her special day by getting to pose with the Baby Shark and the Fish (Brenda Biehler Turville of Showtime Characters said she cannot see so she gets to sit so she won’t step on any toddlers) that were on hand as Toddler Tuesday celebrated Ocean Day (the first Sanctuary Ocean Count presented by the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary takes place on Jan. 27) on Tuesday at Kukui Grove food court area.

John and Juliet Kaohelauli‘i just closed their Sole Mates 808 and were excited about where to bring the grandkids on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Brenda said they’re getting ready to unveil the Valentine’s Day characters, and Easter is early this year.

Melissa McFerrin Warrack (any wood carver interested in carving a tiki out of an in-place expired coconut tree?) said the excitement starts with Chinese New Year on Feb. 10, when the Tsunami Taiko Chinese lions make their appearance to accept li see for good fortune in the coming year.

There is no time to catch anyone’s breath because Malasada Tuesday follows with Ash Wednesday marked as Feb. 14 (yikes! It’s the same date as Valentine’s Day!) … time to place orders at Kaua‘i Bakery so there’s no shortage of malasada.

And, a reminder … David Chung and The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center team is here on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Resource Center in Ahukini, and the Lions Clubs (all Lions Clubs!) will be hosting their collection of used eyeglasses and hearing aids at many different locations around the island on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
