Happy Camper for Friday, January 3, 2020

Happy retirement to Helen Cox, whose final “official” day was Monday. She was busy cleaning her office on New Year’s Eve and wondering if Brian Yamamoto would take one of her certified-disease-free ohia.

More New Year’s eve happenings … Jeff Haigh of California finished his sand sculpture just in time for Chantal Zarbaugh and Lexie Jones to do a “rebel” thing and get a New Year’s photo (perfect for social media) with Haigh’s sculpture. Many others had the same idea (it’s amazing how much quality you can get with smartphones).

Mahalo, mahalo for all the holiday goodness … Darin Moriki (those banana pancakes just hit the spot, Sally Cravens — and so did the Snicker bars; one’s gone, already!) for logging Kauai as a stopover for both getting from and returning to the Bay Area. Brian Atendido (the makers have the D6 and the EOS-1DX Mark III ready to explode out the gates — this is for Mike Teruya, too) for that fancy flood shot of Opaeka‘a Falls; Santa for knowing about dark roast; Janice Akiyama from FM97 for the envelope of goodies; Mrs. Claus for watching over everybody; and the people of Kauai for the A-L-O-H-A shown on the busy Kauai roadways (it got pretty hard to see during all that Christmas wind and rain!); and keeping an eye out so mischievious Menehune stayed clear of Haigh’s sand sculptures.

OK, time to get back on track. Kauai Interscholastic Federation swimming starts tomorrow — first off the blocks at 9 a.m. at the YMCA pool (Happy New Year, Tom Tannery!).
