Happy Camper for Friday, June 14, 2019

Congratulations to Andy Chang, his daughter Patricia Moad (she’s the “mama” of Mamahune’s), and the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay, on the opening of Mamahune tiki (they even have a volcano!) bar that now graces an “unused” portion of the Wailua resort located “where the river meets the sea.” The facility is open seven day a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Congratulations to the Koloa Union Church, which became the second Open and Affirming United Church of Christ church on Kauai to earn that certification! Dr. Rev. Alan Akana just returned from a three-month sabbatical (he’s hosting a special talk and slideshow on the sabbatical Tuesday from 3 p.m. at the Smith parsonage, aka Alan Akana Gallery), in time to join the core team and congregation and guests in the event. Kudos to Michael Horning, Tiffany Marrotte (was it her grandma who developed the dark red plumeria?), Penny Osuga, Lee Anderson and Becky Sakimae of the core team for their work in reaching the certification.

Looking for excitement during the Father’s Day weekend?

There is no shortage, as Kukui Grove Center present its annual Father’s Day Car Show Saturday from 10 a.m. There is also the Garden Island Trollers fishing tournament (captains’ meeting is this evening, fishing all day Saturday, with the weigh in at Lihi Park in Kapaa, banquet and awards Sunday!).

Marli Genegabuas will relinquish her Miss Kauai Filipina crown Saturday during the Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant presented by the Kauai Filipino Community Council starting at 7 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. show for Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani hoike Saturday at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
