Happy Camper for Friday, March 5, 2021

Congratulations to Padraic Gallagher (are you at Bikes on Rice coming up March 9?) and the Kaua‘i American Red Cross on being acknowledged by Mayor Derek Kawakami during the launch of March being celebrated as Red Cross Month.

This extends to all the volunteers beyond Kaua‘i Hero Steve Soltysik (he rode his electric cruiser to the event) and Kaua‘i Volunteer Jed Somit, because it is the effort of everyone who adds to the overall impact.

March is also the month we celebrate Girls Day, Hinamatsuri to the Japanese — the third day of the third month —(congratulations, coach Orlando Anaya, on the new mo‘opuna!), where Kaua‘i Bakery had cute Girls Day boxes with mochi, cupcakes, and what was that round thingie? March is also Women’s History Month, and the Kaua‘i County Committee on the Status of Women is hosting an essay contest on women who inspire greatness.

A reminder that State Farm’s Eric Kaneda is partnering with the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank for a one-day food drive Saturday at the Times Supermarket at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sarah Tochiki will bring something new to the shopping center today from 5 p.m., when the Kaua‘i ‘Opio Keiki Orchestra program violin students will do the KOKO Stroll to open the Kaua‘i Society of Artists Spring Show, where Sarah has a specially-painted violin offered as part of the KOKO fundraiser.
