Happy Camper for Friday, November 19, 2021

Keiki and their families taking advantage of the state Department of Health vaccine clinic for COVID-19 doses for keiki 5 through 11 scored when the Po‘ipu Pickers showed up to entertain on Wednesday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.

Great job with the non-traditional instruments like the mandolin, violin (or is it a fiddle?), banjo and a hollow-body Fender Stratocaster…or, an 80-year-old Martin guitar.

Rebecca Hanson (she’s the big cheese with “Moana Jr.”) said there are tickets still available for the Hawai’i Children’s Theatre’s production of “Moana Jr.” that opens tonight and continues next weekend at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e. Dolly Kanekuni is excited that “Moana Jr.” is the first major production at the convention hall since the pandemic started two years ago — lots of room for live theater there.

Attendees do need the COVID-19 proof of vaccine or a negative test, face masks must be worn, and, yes, there is social distancing observed, and no gatherings. No intermission, either.

Kudos to Mayor Derek Kawakami, Jack Schriver of the Navy League (wow! It was a thrill to see Capt. Tim Young and Tom Clements in person!), and Jill Tokuda on coordinating that sail-by (how many of you saw it on the way to work?) of the new destroyer that will be commissioned the USS Daniel Inouye.

Great job hosting the site, Hokuala and Timbers!

Ann Hashisaka (she said the Made in Hawai‘i festival was all right) was thrilled with the McBryde connection and the sugar cane. And it’s always an honor to see Mabel and Norman Hashisaka. Even state Rep. James Tokioka was there!
