Happy Camper for Friday, November 28, 2025

Mahalo, The Salvation Army, Lihue and Hanapepe Corps, and its numerous volunteers (some of the groups included the Zonta Club of Kauai [they’re in the midst of 16 Days of Activism], Southwest Airlines, the West Kauai Lions Club, Ke Kula O Kekaha Charter School, St. John’s Episcopal Church, and many others) for taking care of more than 900 meals from both locations.

Mahalo to Randal Francisco for worrying about what the teachers from the Philippines are going to be doing during the long weekend, and mahalo to the hands at the Sheraton Kauai Resort, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa (they’ve got their holiday lighting program on Friday, starting at 4 p.m.) on preparing the meals … Ilima Rivera brought her dad’s, Larry Rivera, was a longtrime entertainer at the annual Thanksgiving feast) Epiphone guitar to use while entertaining the troops at the Lihue Corps. Ilima said following 35 years of laying low, she’ll be performing at the Kukui Grove Center holiday programming on Dec. 13, starting at noon.

Mahalo to the St. Michael’s and All Angels Church for their plans of spending Thanksgiving delivering pies (many home-made with special love and appreciation) to the first responders from the Kauai Police Department, Kauai Fire Department and American Medical Response, and mahalo to The Right Slice and Sandy Poenhelt and all those Supersonics basketball players for making sure the Kalaheo fire station is taken care of.

Mahalo to all those who worked on Turkey Day so others could enjoy the great day of feasting with family, friends and neighbors! We have a lot to be grateful for.

Now, don’t forget the Kauai Handworks Craft Fair (how many years? 45?) at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School cafeteria, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Also, the first of three candlelighting vigils presented by Kauai Hospice to remember loved ones who are not here physically to enjoy the holidays takes place on Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church, starting at 6 p.m. The second candlelighting takes place on Thursday at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, and the final candlelighting takes place next Monday at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Kilauea.
