Kachi-kachi is the original Zumba, said Herb Noe (normally, he’s the catcher for Solid Steel of the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league) when he found out Rodney Pimental had his “The Pimentals” CD of kachi-kachi music out. Herb and Christina were setting up for the Old Koloa Town Market (kudos to Kristin Green for coordinating this event where muralist Seth Womble showed another artistic side of himself on a custom ‘ukulele emblazoned with his he‘e (octopus) logo!).
Kudos to Makena Pascua and Kawaiola Productions on the two-hour lunchtime presentation at the food court, Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center (the East Kaua‘i Lions — no, Steven Fujii was with the Kawaihau senior softballers — were discussing the Mama Lucy’s Plate Lunch fundraising special, and mahalo to Robert Tamura for the sushi lunch) where a new sign appeared on the tower near the Kalapaki Joe’s entrance, and the construction wall fronting Nawiliwili Road… now, there’s no secret on who’s going to be in the former Big Kmart building, if you read the trademark correctly.
Lee Wilke of Lee’s Bees had double-duty, first at the Grove Farm Market (those Pueo Garden kids under Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School instructor Tyler Gage are doing real well on their herbal salts, teas, and jellies!), and then moving to the Old Koloa Town Market where Brianne Light of Brianne &Co. was waiting for Charles Woolfork to show up so she could go check out what’s for dinner… Sandra Poenhelt of The Right Slice had dessert ready.
Okay, time for the Pau Hana Market… Mayette Loseto said that fancy red-and-white flower is a Siam Rose that’s related to the crown ginger, and is in season, now!
