Happy Camper for Monday, August 21, 2023

Zaylee Doi Desmarais (how many remember when BEAT Athletica started three years ago?) is the latest volunteer with the Memory Keepers rummage sale (Pat Gonsalves and Rose Manago said it’s been 18 years now!) that had a line snaking from the entrance of the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center towards Isenberg Park when the fundraising effort for Walk to End Alzheimer’s opened on Saturday morning.

Zylee said there is still time to register for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s that has been rescheduled “out of respect for our ‘ohana and friends on Maui who have been impacted by the fires.” Keep your ears peeled for when the new date for the annual walk is going to happen.

So, Annette Hashimoto found some pretty neat “discoveries,” and where was Edwin Vea, who always is on the lookout for good deals? Thank heaven for smartphones for trying to figure out how to fold a compact golf cart.

Jean Souza of the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery brought back an encore of the Hawaiian Honeycreeper Celebration by offering the make-a-fan bird identification project on Saturday, when the Garden Isle Quilters’ Exhibit and Sale was going pretty strong at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, and Hank Curtis arranged for a special performance by student Alex Griffin for the lunch crowd. Who won the Ahukini Wharf Rats and Koloa Cane Cutters game at Isenberg?
