Happy Camper for Monday, August 31, 2020

Happy birthday, Barbara Bloemke! You missed out because everyone was at the Puhi Park Produce. Keiko Napier missed out because Hanalei Taro was out shopping, and Coach Beau Acoba got all the left-overs from Ferdinand Dosono (he didn’t run out of roast pork, today!) at Kaua‘i Kim Chee.

Keiko’s next feed project is with Thomas Nizo so we’ll see when that is, and Candace Boxer drove in just as the rain started to fall (how perfect timing is that?).

Congratulations to Seth Thomas and Samuel Schryver on completing the Holua mural…yes, it is gorgeous, and bright enough to see all the way from Eiwa Street. Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami (those stories of skateboarding in Lihu‘e, especially the Rainbow Curve, were great!) came to congratulate the artists who look ahead toward NirManaFest and more murals coming in October.

Chucky Boy Chock said Kaua‘i Museum will reopen to guided tours by appointment, starting Wednesday (that’s Sept. 2?), but the Gift Shop will be open for business to walk-in traffic and COVID rules (face mask required, sanitizing, and social distancing).

More kudos to Jeni Hardy, Julie Fregeau, Cindy Halasey, Lea Ingram, Lesley Morris, and Toni Wass on a great quilt exhibit and sale (you got until Thursday, 6 p.m. to catch it at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at the Kukui Grove Center!). You might get lucky to see Lesley (she’s going to work on a Princeville Fine Arts Show piece, next) who can tell you about “Cowabunga,” or Julie who can show you the difference between rice bags and feedsack.

Mahalo, Coach Arnold Cruz and the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League for paying it forward — lunch from 7-11 never tasted so good!
