Happy Camper for Monday, December 27, 2021

Paul Iloreta said he got called into work on Christmas Day at the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort (kudos for taking care of the first responders’ holiday meals!) and wore the red holiday aloha shirt because there wasn’t enough time to do laundry before going off to work.

Paul is described as “the king of the bell desk,” and Dawn Hernandez is “queen of the bell desk.” Kudos to those people who put in the hours on a holiday to make sure our guests have a good experience.

Mahalo to Mike and Anne Pierce of Chicken In A Barrel (how many generations were in Kapa‘a?) on hosting the free-meal giveaway on Christmas Day! Mike said they’ve been doing the program for the past 14 years (the kids and grandchildren were buzzing in the kitchen). Now, who was the chicken?

The Johnny Gusman ‘ohana from California couldn’t resist stopping because of the chicken’s antics. Not to be outdone, Santa called loud enough for Eiren Montero to get mom to turn around.

Mahalo to everyone for doing such a bang-up job with Christmas despite the setbacks and inconveniences put on by the COVID-19 virus and its variants. Keep on truckin’ Kaua‘i. We’re going to get through this yet.

Mahalo, Cathy Shanks, for the Kipu Ranch Adventures cap that comes right in time for New Year’s. New Year, new clothes? And Chantal Zarbaugh on the simplification headwear (what’s the difference between a trucker’s cap and a daddy cap?). It’s still comfortable (and durable!).

OK, time to get ready for the New Year. Don’t forget, Hank Zevaat will be at the Pau Hana Market with his hand-made kadomatsu. Laurie Ho says “Tanomimasu — thank you for supporting the local farmers, and we’ll continue to ask for your support through the next year.”
