Happy Camper for Monday, February 12, 2024

Today is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (how many of you remember when it used to be a holiday?) All of the presidents’ birthdays are celebrated on President’s Day (how many of you remember when George Washington’s — he was the first president of the United States — birthday was celebrated?).

Chinese New Year was celebrated on Saturday (did you see those keiki dressed on Chinese dress at the Kukui Grove Center?), and the Chinese lion (some people call it a dragon, but at any rate, it did not forget to stop at all those Chinese restaurants at Kukui Grove). One of the volunteers at the Kaua‘i Quilt Show said the lions will be at Friday Night Art near the Storybook Theatre in addition to opening the Chinese New Year festivities at The Shops at Kuku‘iula that combine with the Po‘ipu shopping center’s monthly Flavors of Kuku‘iula event with firecrackers from 5 p.m.

Michelle Panoke of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i (she was at the HHSC Kaua‘i Region community health and wellness resource fair with Samira Siale of the Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Association, Kaua‘i Chapter) said they’ll be helping with the Kaua‘i United Way Dodgeball Tournament that takes place at the Lihu‘e County Park on Saturday before providing snacks for the Able Prom girls who will be getting ready for the prom at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort.

Finally, calling all football enthusiasts between Grades 3 through 11. Don’t forget the free All Position Football Camp featuring NFL pros Nick and Nate Herbig (and some of their NFL friends) that is being presented by Herbig Gives, the Rotary Clubs of Kaua‘i, and the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board on Saturday at Vidinha Stadium. Registration is being done by the community football programs like the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League, Kaua‘i Youth Football, and at the schools (saw the posters at Kapa‘a High School, and at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School).
