Kudos and congratulations to Thomas Nizo (yes, he was the dragon!), Puni Patrick, Carrie Newcomb (she took over the Paniolo Hat Lei contest from Aletha Kaohi), and the West Kaua‘i Business &Professional Association (Eric Nordmeier was busy helping the West Kaua‘i Lions with their smoked meat plate, and Esther Estes was in the middle of all those Gather Federal Credit Union people who handled the hydration station) on another great Waimea Town Celebration (Kaua‘i Kim Chee had to forego its appearance at the Kaua‘i Community Market because they needed to be at the ho‘olaule‘a).
Angela Hoover, Kaua‘i coordinator for the Girl Scouts, was busy helping the Kekaha School troops (they have a lot of different troops for the different ranks) set up for the Girl Scout cookie sale outside Ishihara Market (they were super duper busy!), and Marionette Taboniar was hosting an art sale (free book giveaways, too), hoping to get overflow from all those ho‘olaule‘a attendees who parked wherever they could find parking (the traffic was backed up all the way Kalaheo-side of ‘Ele‘ele Nani). Yes, that was the Barbara Bloemke truck (we knew it was when Adam Killerman was parking his truck close to their vehicle), and the Niitani sisters came all the way from Lihu‘e “just for one dish,” and kudos to Kahele and Ku‘u Kanahele for keeping the heritage of the Hawaiian pancake alive. Kudos to Geon Tortorvella Kahoku Malama Kittredge for dedicating his first-place finish in the 10-kilometer, male 13 to 18 age group at the 43rd annual Captain Cook Caper run to his “papa,” Paddy Boy Malama (he was the 2019 Ambassador of Aloha), who left us way too early.
