Happy Camper for Monday, July 22, 2019

Barbara Natland said we’ll be doing another moon trip in about five years. Barbara was part of the Science on the Mall that celebrated the golden anniversary (has it been 50 years, already?) of the moon walk at Kukui Grove Center, where Godwin Valdez and Ronnie Toki were cruising to the Aloha Friday night entertainment.

The big show was near the Keiki Korner where the Rev. James Merritt (he had his Kauai Educational Association for Science and Astronomy hat on) and other KEASA members set up a telescope so people could check out Jupiter and its moons (yes, it was bright enough to cut through the cloud cover). The KEASA people even got a head start on the moon walk celebration at the Back to School Bash with its astronomy presentation last week.

Congratulations to Jonah Stein and Kamalei Berg on being selected to participate in the Boy Scouts’ World Jamboree! The pair left Saturday morning, when Kamalei was scheduled to be part of the Kauai Junior Lifeguard island finals (kudos to Kalani Vierra and his ohana on a great event!).

Kane Casillas (and where was Ron Wood to cheer him on?) and Juliana Tampus were able to get in a final run through the beach before heading off to college, and mahalo to Derrick Kessler (what? no Ukes in Paradise this year?) and his Duke’s crew on the great lunch!

Okay, time to go check out the tita storyteller and the opening of the historic plantation days exhibit. Is Ada Koene going to be there?
