Happy Camper for Monday, July 26, 2021

Lance Rae (he’s a state Department of Transportation Child Passenger Safety technician) said Aug. 8 (it’s also Hanamatsuri, or the birth of the Buddha, as celebrated by the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council) is National Spam Musubi Day, and he’s tracing the roots of that delicacy that sprouted at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, where many hands celebrated Back to School Bash Saturday.

Rose Marie Garabillo and her mother Normita Flores took advantage of the steady stream of people to announce the opening of Rose’s Pinoy Favorites that has plans to open its doors near Game Stop on Aug. 1, with a grand opening on Aug. 8 (hey, that’s Spam Musubi Day). And, when is Paradise Sports (they’re in the former Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union outreach office) going to open?

Kudos to Alice Luck, Nannie Apalla, Shy Sadora (is she related to Skylar Sadora that Sam Nakata and coach Dan Tating were looking for?) and all those “Good Eggs” (that’s an Alice Luck term!) that opened the Kaua‘i ‘Ohana Resource Kiosk and had copies of the 2021-22 stae Department of Education school calendar. Theresa Koki and her intern Railee Layosa took advantage of the rain to enjoy the people escaping the blustery weather.

Frank Cruz (are we back at the Pau Hana Market?) brought out the entire Cruz Control to play with the Chickens (do we need the Chickens to bring out Mark Bonilla of Jamba Juice?), and Target Lihu‘e Manager Dee Ann Facuri (she got to meet school Principals Leila Kobayashi and Corey Nakamura) brought out some of her Lihu‘e store team right from training to help. Edie Ignacio-Neumiller (she’s a “community volunteer”) took control of the redshirts and made sure they had a lot of photo ops between the rain and the distribution of some 3,000 backpacks of school supplies.
