Ferdinand Dosono of Kaua‘i Kim Chee (it’s been so long since we saw them, the last time was at Times Supermarket, where the plastic containers of kim chee and namasu are displayed) said there is no substitute for the “char and smoke,” as the Kaua‘i Kim Chee ‘ohana (What? They sold out of the burgers and it wasn’t close to lunch yet) made their first appearance at the Puhi Park Produce. County Council Chair Arryl Kaneshiro was happy the Koloa Plantation Days (what was the color for this year, Arryl?) went virtual so they didn’t have to worry about Douglas, and Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said the event is available for viewing on YouTube.
Meanwhile, the inclement weather kept Kenny Ishii from visiting Mayette Loseto (she said there is a shortage of fresh ginger because of a virus that is near-instant death for ginger plants afflicted by the “black spot”), who had a lot of tumeric available.
Congratulations to the Kaua‘i Humane Society’s Blooming Tails on opening the thrift store in the Puhi Industrial Park, where RJ and Karen Tolodziecki of Bark Bark Backyard (they do pet boarding and sitting) were “walking” a pair of dogs on the treadmill. Launa Bacon, the Blooming Tails manager, is a neighbor of Dickie Chang, who was able to harvest fancy orchids from his garden for a congratulatory lei.
