Happy Camper for Monday, July 8, 2019

Priscilla Simao is learning the ropes after being in Rice Camp (she loved the Kauai Hospice Concert in the Sky fireworks!) for just one month — those Westside kupuna catch the 7:30 a.m. Kauai Bus in time to be able to shop at the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College on Saturday, and then catch the bus (they clean their vegetables while waiting) home for a day of shopping.

Eliza Fuimaono of the Pineapple Express food truck (they’re in front the Gather FCU, Kapaa, Monday through Friday) was running on her last handful of fried musubi (gotta get ‘em early!) at the Kauai Hospice Fourth of July Concert in the Sky fundraiser at Vidinha Stadium Thursday (she said she was the absolute last food vendor to be selected), but made more for the First Saturday event in Kapaa. Eliza is living her dream of having a food truck (they opened with the Earth Day event at Kauai Community College) to give back to the community by doing soup kitchens for the church, and now trying to find ways to help kupuna.

Noel and Sachi Brooks (nope, they don’t do orchids anymore) got a chance to sample Abi Admaff’s (she got help from Penny!)’s Ethiopian food (yes, Jessica, they do vegetarian too!) that Abi said is real popular on the mainland, and what a great way to wash everything down with some Joshua Fukino kava.

Santa was trying to disguise himself with a Canada T-shirt (Bev Brody said July 1 was Canada Day!), but who can miss Santa in Paradise, who was cruising past kumu hula Kehau Kekua, who was waiting patiently for the Anahola Thai, and Ferdinand Dosono of Kauai Kim Chee scored when he got permission to get a slip from the Filipino plumeria from the paniolo (hey, isn’t that the theme of Koloa Plantation Days?).
