Happy Camper for Monday, June 10, 2024

Christy Castillo is ready for The King’s Parade that happens on Saturday, the same day that the sold 0ut Kaua‘i United Way golf tournament (Lori Almarza still has a few more golf balls available for the 2,000-ball golf ball drop being done by the Jack Harter Helicopters crew!) at Puakea Golf Course (Puakea Grill has a great breakfast menu).

Christy was representing the Alzheimer’s Association (June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!) on Saturday evening when Lexi Jones of the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market presented checks to nonprofit organizations that benefited from the recent Kaua‘i Beer Festival. Christy is also one of the Pa‘u princesses who’ll be participating in the King’s Parade that celebrates King Kamehameha (the real holiday is on Tuesday!) on Rice Street (it’s going to be closed, again for people who need to get to work on time).

Steven Domingo (he was at the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji bon dance on Friday with Chris Faye) of the Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council/Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Pageant Filipino Folk Dancers said his group will be participating in the parade along with the current Miss Kaua‘i Filipina, and the three hopefuls for the scholarship pageant coming up on June 22 (everyone still has tickets for that event at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall).

Kaua‘i Community College instructor Brian Yamamoto made sure the Campbell University students from North Carolina did not leave the island without getting some andagi and flying saucers from the bon dance where Mike Teruya showed up as he gets ready for the Heiva I Kaua‘i (that’s coming up in August with Jo Manea).
