Happy Camper for Monday, June 5, 2023

We’re doing this again on Saturday?

Rice Street is going to be shut down for the King’s Parade and Celebration (Nalani Brun said Kaua‘i is the only island with a complete set of pa‘u princesses, the units visitors come to see).

Kudos to the organizers of the Kaua‘i Pride Parade and Celebration on a successful event that Annette Hashimoto (she liked that smoke-breathing dragon!) had never experienced in the five times the event was held.

Stacie Chiba-Miguel of The Shops at Kuku‘iula could only pass by the staging area because she needed to be at the Kaua‘i Police Activities League flag football games, and Bronson Bautista couldn’t make the Pride event because he was tied up with the Kaua‘i Poke Festival that played before a sold-out audience of over 600.

John Kruse (he was baby-sitting for poke creator Kepa Kruse) is heading to Alaska on Friday to help with the Hokule‘a, and Michelle Panoke and Heidi Padilla of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i were going to miss Taste of Hawai‘i because they were going to help Safeway Waipouli with the Summer Rice Drive.

Chef Sam Choy and John Veneri missed the Grove Farm Market in Puhi on Saturday (Carol Yotsuda had daughter Geri helping with the Boro Boro Boutique, and was getting ready to fly kites at the Kukuiolono Park on Sunday) because they were taping with Mikey Moniz of the “Living 808” TV show.

Yeah, we do it all again.

The Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission is hosting the first of the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council bon dances on Friday and Saturday evenings, June 9 and 10, and don’t forget to stop by the Kaua‘i Beer Company (Jim Guerber had an exclusive, ring-side seat for the parade!) for the Adopt It event that happens while the King’s Parade passes by on Saturday!
