Happy Camper for Monday, May 11, 2020

Kudos to Pastor Tom Iannucci, D’Lissa Iannucci (Pietro’s meatballs without the pasta is akin to Hamura’s noodles without the dashi — it’s a package), Christina Ensman, and all those Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child team from the Breath of Life Church at Rice Shopping Center in Lihu‘e for taking the time to bless the community with a special Mother’s Day drive-thru distribution.

That was just part of the Saturday excitement that included the Puhi Park Produce that teemed with so many Mother’s Day shoppers (Candace Boxer really went to town with all those flowers of Ono Pops) that we could only find Chili, the Max Klutke Jack Russell terrier (Max said it’s a rat dog), who was enjoying all the excitement in the nice weather. We couldn’t find Bill Spitz, Sandi Kato-Klutke norLaurie Ho.

Greg Askew of Ono Pops said this week is Hospital Week (last week, Uncle Lovesy was giving away free Uncle’s shave ice to teachers and nurses for their salutory days), and yes, Larry Feinstein (don’t know where Jim Guerber was), the world will definitely not be the same after Russell Haluapo (he just put together that food ride for the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i branch, last Sunday!) decided to leave us — in his own unique Russell H way!

Kudos, Mayor Derek Kawakami (Sparky the Kaua‘i Fire Department mascot was a perfect compliment to directing all that traffic), Cynthia Chiang and the other state Department of Health (was a thrill to see Lauren Guest outside the county Emergency Operations Center) workers were swallowed up by the backlog during the first of four County of Kaua‘i food distributions (mahalo to Battalion Chief Sol Kanoho and the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Ale Quibilan — he was helping at Police, Pastors &Platters drive-thru food giveaway too — for the kokua). See you Saturday in Hanapepe.
