Happy Camper for Monday, May 13, 2019

Happy birthday, Jacob Vogelgesang, who celebrated his birthday on the same day as the Kauai Visitor Industry Charity Walk, where Stacie Chiba-Miguel even coordinated the first-ever Rubba Slippa Drop with Hawaii USA Credit Union (love the new colors for Gather Federal Credit Union!).

Congratulations to Susan Metivier on beating out Renae Hamilton of the YWCA of Kauai (how much did the Keller Williams golf tournament come up with?) for the tie-breaker (nope, nobody’s slippa dropped into the bucket). Stacie said the slippers that weren’t claimed will be donated to Kekaha School (actually, all the schools can use footwear, er slippahs, for students whose footwear give out during the school day).

Kudos to Terry Bonilla and her Hertz Rent A Car team that grew from the March for Babies event. Terry said the “Hertz Heroes in the Neighborhood” is just getting started…go, Hertz! Lt. Shawn Keoho of The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps had a whole crew (how many days in a row are we going to see Samantha Bostick?), including kupuna Florence Acain and Irenio Edrada.

And Samira Siale and her Enterprise crew (how about mouse team shirts for next year?) was stuck in an area where only walkers could access. She had to rush off to help husband Tyrus Siale (no wonder Kleve Zarbaugh was soloing at the Kauai Lifeguard Association tent) with the Kauai World Challenge taking place on Kauai’s Southshore (how was that surf?) ending at Salt Pond Beach Park.

OK, time to go check out the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital bon dance (Josie Pablo had her Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital residents out for the charity walk for the first time, too!) coming up Friday night from 6 p.m. (can’t wait for those andagi benefiting Kauai Special Olympics).
