Ferdinand Dosono of Kaua‘i Kim Chee (he’s getting ready for head coach Charlie Wade and the national champion University of Hawai‘i men ‘s volleyball team’s visit Saturday to the Grove Farm Market!) said sixth generation chef Liliana Contrades (home school is still school) is a real local because she was grinding her chicken sandwich with rice.
No, it’s not on the menu, it was a special creation by Uncle Isaiah!
And Rhonda Collier drove in from Princeville (what time did you have to leave?) to meet up with Rudy Sina and Bill Skelton and the UH Master Gardeners (the UH men’s volleyball players will be available so Kaua‘i fans can meet and greet the back-to-back national champions from 10 a.m. Are you reading this, coach Kell Nonaka?).
Kudos, aunty Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza and Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani ‘ohana (everyone counts – kumu, Uncle Pete Alquiza, musicians, performers, parents, and even kupuna!) on perpetuating not only the finery and pagentry of May Day, but the feeling of May Day (yes, even the foster grandparents ‘volunteering’ at Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e felt it!).
More kudos to coaches Xan Silva and Teddy Perreira and the Kapa‘a (they’re Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association D2 softball champs following a 13-5 win in the championship game on Maui) and Waimea (they upset the top seed Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy!) softball teams on creating an all-Kaua‘i championship battle (how many live streamers?). Definitely makes the island proud to have such high-caliber people in the sport!
