Happy Camper for Monday, May 18, 2020

Mahalo for the prayer, Anna Munos, Mariana Munos and Ellane Kato (small is definitely powerful), who were among the greeters doing mobile prayer Saturday during Police (Facebook Live works, KPD Chief Todd Raybuck), Pastors &Platters, where Sgt. Darla Nonaka “volunteered” a group of men in blue to dispatch platters to the houseless encampment at Lydgate Park.

Mahalo, too, Eliza and Crencio Garcia (granddaughter Taylor Ragsac was helping, too) of Garcia Farm in Moloa‘a for contributing all that fresh super kale (Eliza said they brought flowers for Mother’s Day last week), and Fran Roach was up from 4 in the morning to help create that bivoac outdoor kitchen, where Don Gusman whipped up all those banana pancakes that went well with the Hanalima Bakery cookies.

Austin Miller of the Kaua‘i Gourmet Nuts tent had some of those Billy Carter-created nut pies (you need more than one because they disappear while walking around Puhi Park Produce, where Hanalima Bakery was out at the Saturday version of the market).

Wes Perreira never thought his Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch refrigerated trucks would be used as packing houses (kudos, Mayor Derek Kawakami and the County of Kaua‘i on the second of four food distributions). Buffy Trujillo (see what happens to names when you get married?) was busy with the Kukui Brand jams (she’s got the Kamehameha Schools’ food distribution starting Thursday), and Kaua‘i Fire Department Battalion Chief Jason Ornellas was keeping an eye on Sparky the firefighting dog and KFD mascot (he and mayor were in that hot sun for the whole thing) and KFD Acting Chief Sol Kanoho.

OK, it’s time for the free face-mask distribution by Grove Farm starting at 11:30 a.m. at King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School, and the reopening of the Kapa‘a Sunshine Market at the Kapa‘a Beach Park (note the new location) starting at 2 p.m.
