Happy Camper for Monday, May 19, 2925

Happy Armed Forces Day (the real day was Saturday, the third week of May)!

Armed Forces Day is one of three major military observances in the year and is celebrated for all active armed forces personnel… Mahalo for your service, retired Col. Vincent Freeman, retired Sgt. Major Keith Castaneda and retired Sgt. Major Ian Versammy, for leading the Kauai JROTC programs at Kapaa and Waimea high schools!

Castaneda calls the Honor Guard that presented the colors during the 60th Annual Kauai Community College “The A Team” for its professionalism and dignity in presenting the colors and rendering the anthems…Paula Schultz, a retired Amy nurse, is even more impressed because the all-female unit aspires to careers in healthcare.

Mahalo for your service, Pacific Missile Range Facility Commander Capt. Brett Stevenson and the U.S. Navy, which works with the Hawaii National Guard to distribute food with the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai under the Feed Military initiative. Mahalo for your service, BMC Michael McHugh, officer in charge of USCG Station Kauai—the USCG is a part of the military ohana!

Mahalo for your service, retired Gen. USAF Mary Kay Hertog who leads the Kauai Veterans Council (they take care of all veterans) that will hold the annual Memorial Day (the second of three military observances in the year) service on Monday, May 26, starting at 10 a.m. at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery (sew lei with the Girls Scouts of America for the grave markers on Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center from 10 a.m.)
