Happy Camper for Monday, October 19, 2020

Yes, even Phil “Santa” Worwa (he’s wrapping up his staycation in paradise) has a face mask when he dropped in on the Kama‘aina Days and Orly’s Patisserie (did you see that cake valued at $1,500) Saturday at the Hokulei Village Shopping Center in Puhi.

Santa said Veronica Lovesy (yes, Uncle’s Shave Ice is part of the Hokulei ‘ohana (like Kenji Burgers and Bedmart) created his masterpiece mask that is able to accommodate his beard. Maybe he’ll get Marynel Valenzuela or Barbara Green to create a Kaua‘i Fashion Week one for use during the summer vacation months. And, congratulations to Marg and Ted Abbone (mahalo, Denise Roberts) on getting chosen as winners of the special Orly Yadao and Frederick Isla (he’s a new pastry chef who also competed on the Food Network with Orly) grand opening cake.

And, even University of Hawai‘i at Manoa student and Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Tifany Sagucio was covering the food and pumpkin giveaway at Kekaha Neighborhood Center. Buffy Trugillo said a lot of the Kamehameha School-Kapalama students — some even had pink Breast Cancer Awareness shirts — from Kaua‘i home for distance learning were helping at the giveaway (yes, it was raining with bouts of lightning and thunder too). Good job, William Trugillo, on not making the place a bog despite all that orographic precipitation). Tiffany was sporting a Rice Street face mask (mahalo Lee Steinmetz).

Kudos to Laurie Yoshida (she had Corteva Agriscience people all over the place), Stephanie Iona and Sandi Kato-Klutke, who brought over some Pono Coffee and Bakery goodies on one of the biggest distributions to take place since the COVID-19 pandemic started. The line of cars was still long at the 11 a.m. scheduled end of the giveaway.
