Happy Camper for Monday, September 2, 2019

Congratulations to Coach Teddy Arroyo and his Kauai Pop Warner Football League ohana on launching its 58th year of tackle football and cheer for Kauai’s young scholar-athletes Saturday during the annual Jamboree, where Kelvin Moniz (he was officiating at the Friday night Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game, too!) and Harvette Acosta were recognized for their numerous years of service with volunteer awards.

Pam Arroyo was tied up with the Regency at Puakea facility in Puhi, where one of its residents, Ikito “Ike” Muraoka (his Oahu ohana took advantage of the long weekend to come and celebrate, as did former Mayor Maryanne Kusaka!), was presented La Legion D’Honneur decoration, France’s highest military award, by Guillaume D. Maman, the honorary consul of France in Hawaii. United States Sen. Mazie Hirono kind of got a preview of this Thursday when she stopped by to present Chito Isonaga with four medals for her service during World War II, and kudos to Kaleo Carvalho (he does a wicked rendition of “Hawaii Pono‘i”!) for juggling Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami’s schedule to be on time for all these events.

Hats off to Harriet Watanabe (mahalo for a copy of the halftime show!) and Kapaa High School for its Homecoming celebration that unfolded on the big stage of OC16 television cameras Friday night! Kauai High School celebrates its Homecoming this week (Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center said they’ll do a parade and some festivities at the shopping center, too!). Stay tuned for details.

Happy Labor Day!
