Happy Camper for Saturday, April 19, 2025

Congratulations, Coach Jason Caldeira and the Waimea girls flag football team on earning the first Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls flag football championships on Thursday night! Despite team records accumulated over five weeks of play, all four teams — Waimea, Kauai, Kapaa and Island School — had a shot at the title during the single elimination championship tournament. Congratulations to all the teams for participating and congratulations to all team coaches for stepping forward in this inaugural season.

Congratulations to Lt. Lance Okasaki and Sgt. Morris Unutoa and all the Kauai Police Department officers who work with young people on pulling off the Kauai Police Activities League youth track meet with the help of the Department of Parks and Recreation volunteer coaches. Despite the overnight drenching and flood warnings on Friday morning, more than 200 athletes from Waimea Canyon Middle School, Kapaa Middle School, Island School (yikes, Coach Jen had flag football on Thursday night) and even Alakai O Kauai Charter School worked on the grass track set up at the Island School soccer field where, as soon as the KPAL event was done, the Rotary Clubs could take over for their track meet with high school students.

The Kauai Community College Jazz Ensemble will welcome the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Band and the Kauai High School Band for a special Spring Concert (it’s free!) on Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center where Island School will present its Spring Chorus, Ukulele Concert and Art Show for free on April 23.
