Happy Camper for Saturday, April 6, 2024

Kudos to Heleolanimainamaka‘oha‘ena Haileejo Yokotake of Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, and Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin on finishing as the third princess in the Miss Aloha Hula pageantry that took place on Thursday at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium in Hilo … there’s still a lot of Merrie Monarch Festival events to view on television before everything ends on Saturday night with the Group Hula ‘Auana competition and overall awards.

Greg Askew, a citizen volunteer with the ‘Ukulele Festival coming up on April 14 at Kukui Grove Center, took advantage of the Kaua‘i United Way Mahalo lunch at the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort (great job with the menu, Chef Mark Sassone!) to pitch the free public event. Kudos, KUW Executive Director Lori Almarza, Lynette Medrano-Stine, Melissa Ragasa, incoming board president Michael Contrades (Ron Wiley said he likes “Mikey”) and all the hands coming together to say “Mahalo” for their individual efforts that contribute to the success of the Kaua‘i United Way.

This is the weekend when Grove Farm Market brings more than 40 vendors (they had more than 150 at the Merrie Monarch) to their weekly farmers market because it’s the first Saturday of an even-numbered month (the next one celebrates Fathers Day in June!). Additionally, Grove Farm is sponsoring a tent for the Department of Water, which will be offering a free hose nozzle to people stopping by to learn about water conservation and xeriscaping (that means they don’t require a lot of water).
