Happy Camper for Saturday, May 4, 2024

Aaron Yamasato (Kaua‘i Comic Con is coming in June!) said today, May 4, is Star Wars Day because when people say “May the 4th Be With You,” it sounds so close to “May the Force Be With You.” Aaron said that the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library will be arranging to have free comics (It’s also Free Comic Book Day!) distributed during the craft and book sale that opens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then from 2 to 4 p.m. Aaron said Hanapepe Public Library also welcomes any cosplayers who want to test their costume ahead of Kaua‘i Comic Con … watch for notices of when tickets will be available through their website (Kaua‘i Comic Con has been sold out during its previous runs).

Neill and Fely Sams of Ochid Alley (how many blue ribbons from the recent Garden Island Orchid Society Spring show and sale?) said this weekend is the final weekend for people to place their orders for live blooming plants to be shipped to the mainland for arrival before or on Mother’s Day. Neill said Fely will be creating special Mother’s Day baskets for First Saturday shoppers, and reminds people that Monday is the drop dead deadline for the mailings … mahalo for using all the unsold TGI for packing!

Mahalo and kudos to Noelani and Paul Pomroy for continuing the lei making tradition left by Walter and Irmalee Pomroy. And Ed Punua will be doing his part by participating in the 8th annual Steel Guitar Festival presented by HiMele Foundation that opens Sunday at 11:;30 a.m. at the Kukui Grove Center. Ed’s participation continues the entertainment and hula legacy by his parents, Victor and Ku‘ulei Punua.
