Happy Camper for Sunday, August 4, 2019

Ariella Borre was thrilled her personal choice of Bonjolea II, piloted by Bonnie Tiffany, was in the lead at the final race of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Wahine Series Thursday at Nawiliwili Harbor. Her grandma had the other end covered with her favorite Iwi and Karen Cole at the wheel. Polly Mullen is here house-sitting again, but didn’t get Speedy in the water because she only had three crew. Now, was Bonnie fast enough to overcome that four-minute-plus handicap?

Stan Morinaka was checking his boat during the King Tide Thursday, and Commodore Larry Richardson (he’s got the Kauai Sea Scouts Hawaii Youth Maritime Program 10-year anniversary coming up Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m.) was off to the musical production of “Chicago” after securing the Sea Scout Ship Decisive against the high tide, rough surf and wind at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor.

There is still time to catch some of the Heiva I Kauai action today (what? No Bev Pang at the silent auction?) when emcee Cathy Teri‘ipaia (she’s a one-woman show in herself) opens the action at 10 a.m. at Kapaa Beach Park. And there is still time to take in some of the free Back-to-School Bash today at the Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue with Pastor John and Rhonda Cabello (they were at the Kauai Chamber of Commerce Hawaii Community Foundation luncheon at the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu Wednesday, too) and New Hope Lihue.
