Happy Camper for Sunday, February 12, 2023

How come you got so much broccoli? Ernie Domingo wanted to know on Friday after the Ahukini Wharf Rats (if they sold those shirt’s I’d get one) lost to Ele Makule, 17-5 in the Kaua‘i Senior Softball League seventies division games contested at Isenberg Field on Fridays starting at 9 a.m. (these are seniors we’re talk about — if the weather is clear and everybody’s at the field, they might throw that first pitch before 9 a.m.). The Friday games marked just the second week of the season that started last week (no, the first week’s games were rained out).

Ernie said there was too much rain last week, so didn’t check on the Grove Farm Market to see if the Nonaka Farms people and the half moons were there. You missed out, Ernie, because the Nonakas were there (and they had half moons, too).

Coach Tommy Rita wasn’t at lunch because he’s at the NFL Super Bowl (that’s why he knew the tickets to the Super Bowl started at $4,000 each). And it was definitely nice to see Coach Mikey Cardinez (how’s Noah doing in school?). Now, we know baseball is getting close.

Kudos, Lea Ingram, Toni Wass (her mom Virginia Wass is visiting — just in time for the Kaua‘i Quilt Show!), and all those volunteer hands (Erla of the Kaua‘i Handworks Fair said one of her quilts sold early) for making the quilt show open on time at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery (Leonora Orr said they have “Ancestral spirit, Hueman Scale” opening in July) at Kukui Grove Center, where a lot of people are taking a break to watch the NFL Super Bowl.
