Happy Camper for Sunday, July 26, 2020

Mahalo, Shari Shimabukuro (and ‘ohana) for those energy bars that became part of the Tropical Storm Douglas (hope everyone gets through this safely) get-up-and-go package. Hope those “fumigation adenium” are riding out the weather disturbance alright.

Kudos to Tina Albao and her Boys &Girls Club on wrapping up a great summer program (the B&G ‘ohana even sent home bags of rice for the members’ families as an extra measure of having food during the passage of Douglas) with a Zoom inter-club — four sites — dance before the summer program participants enjoyed a dessert surprise Friday under the canopy of the then-Hurricane Douglas threat.

Derek Kessler of Duke’s Canoe Club restaurant (there’s also Derrick Iha) dropped off mini hula pie (Duke’s is now open for dine-in service Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 8 p.m., and when is the crab special, Derek?), and those Nia Genegabuas eyes were a dead giveaway for one of Vicky Ramos’ granddaughters.

And, what a surprise — Maile Bryan (she even recruited her neice Mahealani to help), Kirk and Tora Smart (yes, even Eli was there) of Hanalei Strings had a group of people distributing the first of the Kapa (Kirk said they even make a 3/4-sized guitar) ‘ukulele to Kaua‘i’s graduating high school seniors. The group (maybe Gina Kaulukukui will join them) plan on doing another giveaway Friday at the historic Waimea Theater and Saturday morning in front of Bandwagon at Kukui Grove Center.
