Happy Camper for Sunday, July 7, 2019

Kudos to all (!!!) the organizers of the three major Fourth of July celebrations — the Freedom Fest (mahalo, Tom Clements and Sara Sexton, and Mel Rapozo had the right idea — rent a cottage!), the Kekaha Fourth of July celebration (kudos Sam Bustillos, Darryl Kua and company — the West Kauai Methodist culinary offerings — they come to Lihue for the Lights on Rice holiday parade! — are a tradition), and the Kauai Hospice Concert in the Sky (great job, Tricia Yamashita, who balances between being the acting executive director and the concert event coordinator!).

Randy Yokoyama was busy grilling burgers at the concert, but said he’ll be absent when the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair opens because he has to take his son to college…and how about that great post-concert run, Eden Raquel?

Leona Perez said her body would crack if she tried some of the Grace Lopez antics that the young Cub Scout learned during gymnastics, and how about those handstands and walking-on-hands routine with Lexi Jones (too bad she couldn’t get together with Grace), who had the young people going — just like she did at the Mayor-a-thon (no, Kaleo Carvalho — did you see that gorgeous Fourth creation — was busy dispensing hydration items while waiting on Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, who started his Fourth routine at Kekaha).

And, the Fourth doesn’t end, because Rodney Sagucio, John Hao-Bergado and Pili Akau had the Shaka Burger food truck offering preview sampling of aloha for when they plan on opening the burger food truck later this week (did they say Thursday?) at the Central Pacific Bank parking lot.
